Working With Basement Remodeling
Contractors
Basement remodeling contractors are a
little different from other contractors
that you may hire. First of all, they
are typically hired to make an
enhancement to your home, as opposed to
most contractors that are hired to
correct problems or perform maintenance.
It’s usually exciting to have a basement
contractor working on your home because
you can anticipate your living space
becoming bigger and better.
Another perk to hiring basement
contractors is that they will be working
below ground so you will not need to
change or remove anything from your main
living spaces. However, it is important
to move anything that might get in their
way as they enter and leave your
basement. Depending on what part of the
basement is being remodeled, parts or
all of it, you may need to empty the
space out before the work begins. Other
than that, you really don’t have much
else to worry about. Just sit pretty and
remind yourself of what a great
investment a basement remodel is!
Hiring a Basement Remodeler
When you hire a basement contractor, you
are under the assumption that they will
show up to the job with everything they
need. And they should! However, it is
proper contractor etiquette to offer up
a glass of ice water or some other
beverage simply because you know that
they are working hard for you and they
could probably use the replenishing.
Plus, you never know if such a kind act
will convince them to lower the price on
something, complete the project faster,
or make any changes that you want
without complaint. It’s always a good
idea to be kind, receptive, and
respectful unless given a reason not to.
Try to prepare the site that will be
remodeled before the contractor arrives.
You may want to plan to have a mat where
they can wipe their feet before walking
up your stairs. If you are extending a
main floor bathroom to them for use,
then the mats will come in handy for
them to wipe their feet off on before
walking through your house. Also, it
might be a good idea to have some old
rags or towels that they can use to wipe
their hands so that nothing accidentally
gets wiped on your furniture or walls.
Most contractors will come prepared with
such clothes and be cautious of your
home, but it’s always better to be safe
then sorry.
Additional considerations may include
allowing the basement contractors access
to water cups, a place to wash tools off
and clean themselves up, electrical
sources and any thing else that you can
predict someone in their position
needing. Keep in mind, you are not
responsible for providing them with
anything, but it would be kind to do so
and may benefit your relationship with
the contractor in regards to your
remodeling job. If, for some reason, an
issue arises between the contractor and
yourself, try not to be disagreeable.
Lastly, always compliment a job well
done.
